Oscars 2012 – Academy Awards 2012 Nomination List

The nominations for the 84th annual Academy Awards 2012 were officially announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. Tom Sherak, the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Oscars nominee Jennifer Lawrence announced the names of the nominees in a press conference. “Hugo” leads the nominations’ categories with 11 nominations. “The Artist” is just behind it with 10 nominations. Billy Crystal will host the final event of the 84th Annual Academy Awards 2012. The winners’ names of the Oscars 2012 will be announced at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, California on February 26, 2012. ABC will telecast the final event in the United States.

Michel Hazanivicus (The Artist), Alexander Payne (The Descendants), Martin Scorsese (Hugo), Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris) and Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life) are the nominees for ‘Best Director’ award.

For ‘Best Picture’ category there are nine films contending with each others. They are War Horse, The Artist, Moneyball, The Descendants, The Tree of Life, Midnight in Paris, The Help, Hugo and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.

For ‘Best Actor’ award the nominees are Demian Bichir (A Better Life), George Clooney (The Descendants), Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Brad Pitt (Moneyball).

Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Viola Davis (The Help), Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady) and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn) will be seen contending with each others for the ‘Best Actress’ award.

There are five nominations in ‘Best Supporting Actor’ category. Kenneth Branagh (My Week With Marilyn), Jonah Hill (Moneyball), Nick Nolte (Warrior), Christopher Plummer (Beginners) and Max von Sydow (Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close).

For ‘Best Supporting Actress’ award the nominees are Berenice Bejo (The Artist), Jessica Chastain (The Help), Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids), Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs) and Octavia Spencer (The Help).
