Bubba Watson wins 2012 Masters Tournament

Gerry Lester, popularly known as Bubba Watson Jr., is in the limelight for winning the 2012 Masters Tournament on Sunday. His exceptional performance helped him win the coveted title against Louis Oosthuizen. The 2012 Masters Tournament was the 76th edition of the tournament, one of golf’s four major championships. It was held from April 5 to 8 at Augusta National Golf Club.

Both players, Oosthuizen and Watson, ended up in a tight situation, as they were nearly at an equal standing before the final playoff on the 18th hole. On the next hole, both golfers drove their tee shots towards the woods to the right of the hole. Oosthuizen’s shot unfortunately didn’t get him anywhere and landed in the rough and Watson’s was also off the track when it landed in the woods. With years of exceptional experience and skill, Watson was able to turn around the game in his favor and his second shot landed within ten feet of the hole. Oosthuizen finished the hole at one over par, while Watson parred it to win the tournament. Bubba Watson’s shot that was hooked about 40 yards onto the elevated green has made him extremely popular.

According to a news report posted by Huffington Post, Bubba Watson shared his excitement after winning the championship, saying, “I’ve never had a dream go this far, so I can’t really say it’s a dream come true.” He added, “I don’t even know what happened on the back nine. Nervous on every shot,  I got in these trees and hit a crazy shot that I saw in my head, and somehow I’m here talking to you with a green jacket on.”

His counterpart, who lost the battle at the very final stages, also shared his sentiments upon losing. Oosthuizen said, “I had no idea where he was” He added, “Where I stood from, when the ball came out, it looked like a curve ball. Unbelievable shot. That shot he hit definitely won him the tournament.”
