It is almost a given that Toyota will launch a convertible version of its GT86 sports car, and now we are hearing the car could be here as soon as next Spring. The Toyota GT86 Cabrio will almost certainly makes its debut at the next Geneva Motor Show, and goes on sale a few months after that.
Seeing as the GT86 is a car for purists and enthusiasts, it’s not going to bother with a folding hardtop. It will have a conventional fabric roof. The car won’t get any lighter though, as they have to add a lot of strength to the body to compensate for the loss of roof.
AS is the case with convertible cars, it won’t be just as delicate and wonderful to drive as the hardtop, but downsides will be small, especially when you consider the upsides of a drop-top sports car.
The power still comes from the 197bhp 2.0 liter boxer engine, but as we know both Subaru and Toyota are working on higher performance versions of their versions of the car. Toyota is apparently going hybrid, while Subaru is considering a more conventional tuning with sport intakes and exhausts.
