The other day, we told you that MetroPCS and Dyle Mobile TV had teamed up with Mobile Content Ventures. The latter is a collection of networks like Fox, Universal, Telemundo, NBC and others. The result will be live, local and national television on certain MetroPCS handsets soon. Even phones that ship without a tuner will be able to use Dyle with the installation of an antenna accessory and the Dyle mobile app. The app will be available for both iOS and Android devices.
According to The Verge, Dyle demonstrated the reception over a Samsung reference device at CES 2012 and the picture, while not always reliable, was “bright and clear”. But unlike the current streaming videos you watch on your smartphone, using the Dyle system won’t count against your monthly data allowance. A Wi-Fi or cellular connection is not required. As long as you can put up with some commercials, you will be able to catch sitcoms, sports news and even novelas on your phone.
