Clooney Launches $350M Fundraising Drive For Struggling Entertainers

In the showbiz industry world over, there are numerous artistes/entertainers who are going through hard times, in their twilight years. It is good to know that in Hollywood there are actors who are trying to raise funds for them to alleviate their sufferings.

One such actor is George Clooney, who has launched a massive drive to raise funds to aid the struggling entertainers who are going through tough times. The Descendants Star jointly with movie producer Jeffrey Katzenberg is aspiring to raise $350 million (£219 million) which will then go to the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF).

With requisite funds, MPTF will be better equipped to provide heath care and other humanitarian services to careworn showbiz professionals and retirees. The 50-year-old Clooney was quoted by contact music.com as saying “I was raised to believe that, as a community, we should be judged by how we take care of people who can’t take care of themselves. This is our community. This is our commitment,” he added.

Meanwhile the fundraiser has already garnered $200 million (£125 million), due to the generous contributions of stars like of Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg and many others. However, the group hopes more stars will come forward and dig deeper into their pockets.

Speaking to contactmusic.com about the campaign, MPTF executive Bob Beitcher opines, “The fact is that today we can’t anticipate what kind of help and support they’ll need from MPTF. But we can be certain that there will continue to be needs that otherwise won’t be filled without the support of our charity.”

It may be noted, MPTF a non-profit organization was founded way back in 1921 by Hollywood legends like Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, among others.
